Lily is an American student in Guangzhou when she meets Qin, a rising television host. He draws her into a world of cameras, banquets, family homes, and Shanghai nights. They grow close before they have the words to say everything that matters. Then they part, each left with a different understanding of what happened.
Thirty-five years later, Lily opens the diary she kept in China. It brings back details she’d forgotten and questions she never got to ask. She sends Qin a message across the ocean, unsure whether it will reach him or what she’ll say if it does.
Inspired by real events, Future Endless is a literary novel about love, memory, and yuanfen, the mysterious affinity that brings people into each other’s lives and sometimes brings them back.
The story now has a soundtrack
The title echoes two words written in a card Lisa received during her time in China: “forever endless.” Decades later, those words found their way into both a novel and a song.
